Student Visa – Subclass 500

Allows full-time study at a registered institution with part-time work up to 48 hours per fortnight during term time. Unlimited hours during university breaks.

  • • Valid Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from CRICOS-registered institution
  • Genuine Student Requirement – demonstrate primary intent is to study (replaced GTE requirement in 2024)
  • • Financial capacity proof – minimum annual living cost: AUD 29,710
  • • If bringing dependants: Spouse AUD 10,394/year, Child AUD 4,449/year
  • • Visa fee: AUD 2,000 (non-refundable)
  • • Processing time: 4–8 weeks (priority given under Ministerial Direction 115)

Health & Compliance

  • • Medical examination with approved panel doctor required
  • • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) mandatory for entire stay
  • • Police Clearance Certificate for character requirements
  • • Maintain CRICOS-registered course enrollment

Post-Study Work Visa – Subclass 485 (2026 Updates)

After graduation, eligible graduates can apply for a Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) to work in Australia for 2–4 years, depending on qualification level.

  • Visa fee: AUD 4,600 (as of March 2026 – increased from AUD 2,300)
  • • Maximum age: 35 years for most streams (PhDs and Masters by Research remain eligible until age 50)
  • • Work rights: Full-time employment in your nominated occupation
  • • Valuable pathway to permanent residency through skilled migration (2–5 years from graduation)
